Planners of this year’s National Day fireworks show have added 10,000 fireworks to the display. This year’s National Day fireworks show is slated to take place in the southern city of Tainan on Saturday.
The original plan was to fire off 16,882 fireworks for a show lasting 33 minutes.
However, on Friday, Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-cher said that planners have decided to increase the number of fireworks by 60% in order to create a more extravagant show. He says that a total of 27,354 fireworks will now be set off during the 33-minute display.
Huang says he hopes the newly added fireworks will attract more people to visit his city for the show. He says he estimates that over 250,000 will attend. Huang says that 700-800 volunteers will work to ensure the event goes ahead smoothly.
