The Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) announced on Thursday the launch of 118 subsidized travel routes for overseas Taiwanese coming to Taiwan. Overseas Taiwanese taking advantage of the travel routes can receive a subsidy of NT$3000 (US$100). The packages also include the “i Compatriot Card,” which offers cardholders discount deals and exclusive offers with designated partners and stores. OCAC says it hopes more overseas Taiwanese will apply for the card this year.

OCAC is also inviting overseas Taiwanese to attend the National Day celebration on October 10. OCAC Chairperson Hsu Chia-ching (徐佳青) says the themes of this year’s celebration are democracy, resilience, and sustainability. Hsu says the celebration will emphasize Taiwan’s democratic values and the spirit of the people in defending Taiwan. She gave special thanks to overseas Taiwanese for speaking up on Taiwan’s behalf.
