This year’s National Day Gala will be held in Tainan for the first time. The public event will be held at Tainan Air Base on the evening of October 8, two days before the official National Day celebrations.
Legislative speaker and chairman of the National Day Preparatory Committee You Si-kun (游錫堃) said on Thursday that the event in Taiwan’s oldest cultural capital will combine both southern Fujian and local Taiwanese cultures. It will feature musical performances from traditional performers as well as local popular musicians and rappers. The stage will feature military aircraft such as the Indigenous Defense Fighter jets and C-130H Hercules cargo planes among others.
Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said in a press release announcing the gala that the air base is usually closed to the public. He says the event gives the public an opportunity to deepen their understanding of national security and how Taiwan’s military protects their homes and country.
The event has a limited capacity of 1,500 people and requires online registration using a national ID number to attend.
