The Pacific island nation of Palau has added Taiwan’s domestically produced Medigen COVID-19 vaccine to its list of approved shots. The announcement on Thursday came just days prior to Taiwan’s National Day on Sunday, October 10.
Palau is one of 15 nations that maintain diplomatic relations with Taiwan. Palauan President Surangel Whipps Jr. announced the news at a banquet at the Taiwanese embassy in Palau marking Taiwan’s National Day.
Previously, the country only admitted travelers who had been fully vaccinated for two weeks with a COVID vaccine approved by theWHO or the US Food and Drug Administration .
The Taipei Association of Travel Agents, however, has clarified that this new regulation does not affect travelers taking advantage of the Taiwan-Palau travel bubble. The travel bubble allows visitors from Taiwan to enter Palau and get vaccinated there.
