Taiwan’s envoy to the United States, Hsiao Bi-khim, says that the United States’ support for Taiwan is ‘rock-solid’. Hsiao was speaking during a reception in Washington held to celebrate Taiwan’s National Day, which is observed on October 10.
When asked about the US response to China’s increased military maneuvers near Taiwan in the past week, Hsiao said communication between the two sides have been going smoothly. She also thanked the US for its continued support. She said that Taiwan’s security is critical to the peace and stability of the surrounding region. Hsiao also said that Taiwan’s situation is important to the interests of the US and other friendly nations in the Indo-Pacific region.
The banquet was attended by 500 guests, including American Institute in Taiwan Chairman James Moriarty and former US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage.
