A magnificent display of fireworks lights up the night sky. This year, Taiwan's National Day fireworks will be hosted in Kaohsiung. The fireworks show has been held in a number of cities over the past 20 years. But this year, the COVID-19 restrictions means only 20,000 people will be allowed to view the show from the harbor in Kaohsiung.
From October 1 to October 4, people can register online to attend the event. On October 5, the government will announce which 20,000 people were chosen in the lottery and can watch the fireworks show from the main harbor.
However, people who can't make it to the harbor viewing area shouldn't feel too disappointed. The beautiful fireworks display will be easily visible from many other special spots in Kaohsiung, like Shoushan, also known as "Monkey Mountain", National Sun Yat-sen University, and the Hamasen Railway Museum, among others.
The deputy director of Kaohsiung's tourism bureau, Liu Hsiu-ying, says watching the fireworks is like attending an arena theater, where equally stunning but different perspectives are available in all directions around the center stage. With so many places to view it from, this year's fireworks display is sure to go off with a bang.
