About 1,000 overseas Taiwanese are returning to Taiwan for the National Day celebrations, which falls on October 10.

Usually about 6,000 overseas Taiwanese return every year but that number has been scaled down due to the pandemic.

National Day celebrations are also held in Taiwanese communities throughout the world on October 10.

In Taipei, this year’s highlights include an orchestra kicking off the celebrations on the 91st floor of Taipei 101. An 18 x 15 meter Republic of China flag will also appear mid-air in front of the Presidential Office. The ceremony will also feature a group of 60 indigenous children representing 16 tribes in traditional costume singing “Hand in Hand”, which was composed in 2003 during the SARS epidemic.

The National Day fireworks will be held in Hsinchu and Kaohsiung.
